Virtual Try-On for Shiseido (2019-2021)

This project involved working as a Product Designer in the Technology Acceleration Hub of Shiseido, specializing in AI technologies and creating SaaS and B2C projects. I collaborated with various makeup brands under the Shiseido group to build Makeup Virtual Try-On experiences on their official websites and apps, collecting data, conducting research, and designing UI components to deliver ideal results.


Role: Product Designer

Team: Technology Acceleration Hub of Shiseido (AI technology: Machine Learning and Computer Vision)

Main Task

  • Collect data and Label them by internal labeling tool.
  • Collect research findings and competitor analysis to develop user experience insights for ideation.
  • Mature scanning makeup products and designing makeup looks using Adobe Photoshop for ideal VTO results.
  • Make related UI design and create component library by use Figma and Sketch to comply with each brands’s style .

Design Process

  • Understand. Review clients’ requirements, collect information from marketing teams, and conduct research and competitor analysis (Sephora, BeautyCam)
  • Ideate. Sketch out logical solutions for end-user.
  • Prototype. Design VTO demonstration with engineers.
  • Test. Provide demo to clients (makeup brands under Shiseido Group), get feedbacks and make adjustment.
  • Develop. Incorporate the testing result into the next iteration. 
  • Deliver. Deliver ideal VTO feature to brands for launch purpose.
